It isn’t a secret that being a real estate sales representative is a very lucrative career. It is also a huge misconception that it is an ‘easy’ way to make a lot of money. What is the difference between a great real estate agent and one that just can’t get a break in this over populated market place? The answer to this question is not much of a surprise to anyone that has been working in the field for any amount of time

LeAd Generation

Every entrepreneur needs to lead generate, whether you are a lawyer, engineer, architect, or real estate agent. You could be the best at your profession, a person who has mastered every theory and calculation in the book, but if you do not leea generate, all that knowledge is good for nothing. It does not have to be hard. There are many real estate agents that make more than a quarter million a year by just holding open houses, others do the same by door knocking or cold calling or blogging. The key is to sample all these avenues and pick the few that work for you. Get in touch with a successful real estate agent and shadow them for a few weeks to get a better understanding of how they generate business. No matter what you do, don’t do nothing.

Time Management and Discipline

Real estate gives people the luxury of being their own boss and not having anyone to answer too. This seems to be one of the biggest reasons why some people choose this field. However, what one may assume to be the most attractive part of being a real estate agent, also seems to be the biggest curse. Some people lack discipline. A great way to overcome this challenge is by time blocking your day and doing what needs to get done and enjoying your leisure time instead of feeling guilty for, say, not leed generating.

Training and  Education

In order to be a successful sales representative, you need to be a learned sales representative. Grasp all the knowledge available to you. Time block at least 3 hours a week to learn something new about your business. Use a variety of sources such as in person training sessions, training workshops, audible books, and available courses offered by your real estate board. This will help you sound more intellectual during conversations and allow you to convince clients to sign you on. Here are a list of great books to get you started:

  1. The Millionaire Real Estate Agent by Gary Keller
  2. The ABC’s of Real Estate Investing by Ken McElroy
  3. Success as a Real Estate Agent for Dummies by Dirk Zellers

Real estate is a very competitive field and can be overwhelming for an agent that is new to the field or one that has not seen the level of success they were hoping for.
